What the extension accesses, and why

• bookmarks: showing your Chrome bookmarks and creating, editing, moving or deleting them when you ask. Changes go to Chrome's own bookmarks, so Chrome Sync behaves as it does for bookmarks you edit yourself.
• storage: remembering which folders are open, the IDs and last-opened times of up to 500 bookmarks you opened from the panel or the address bar (to rank search results), the folder you last chose by hand for a bookmark, and whether the extension has already asked for the optional permission below. Stored locally with chrome.storage.local.
• sidePanel: displaying the extension in Chrome's side panel.
• favicon: showing each site's icon from Chrome's local icon cache. No network requests are made.
• tabs (optional): requested only the first time you save the current page (the ☆ button or ⌘/Ctrl+D) or save all open tabs (⌘/Ctrl+Shift+D or “Save all tabs here” in a folder’s ⋯ menu). Once granted, while the panel is open, it reads the active tab's title and address to save the page and to show whether that page is already bookmarked; when you choose to save all tabs, it reads the titles and addresses of the tabs in that window to save them as bookmarks in a new folder. The extension compares those addresses with your bookmarks in memory, keeps no separate copy, and does not send them anywhere itself. If you save pages, their addresses are stored in those Chrome bookmarks, which Chrome Sync syncs if you have it on. You can decline; the page is then saved through an empty form and nothing is marked. After a decline, the extension asks again only when you explicitly choose to save all tabs.

The address-bar search (type b and a space) needs no permission. What you type after it is matched against your bookmarks inside the extension and is not stored or sent.

When you drag a link into the panel or paste addresses into it, the extension reads what you dropped or pasted, only at that moment, to save it as bookmarks.

What stays on your device

Only the items listed under storage above: which folders are open, the IDs and last-opened times of up to 500 bookmarks, the folder last chosen by hand, and whether the optional permission was requested; plus a copy of the part of your bookmark list that was last on screen (at most a few hundred rows, in the extension's own local storage) so the panel can show it the instant it opens. They are never sent anywhere and are removed when you uninstall the extension. Your bookmarks themselves are Chrome's own data; if you use Chrome Sync, Chrome syncs them exactly as it does without this extension.

What we never do

We do not collect personal information, browsing history, bookmark contents or usage data. We do not use remote code, third-party services or trackers. Your data is not sold, transferred to third parties, or used for any purpose other than the features described above.

Limited Use

Easier Bookmarks' use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
